Scheme Bridgewater Canal Towpath Improvements

Bridgewater Canal (Muddy Mile), Astley.

Scheme description

The first of the Bee Network schemes to be completed was a number of improvements to the Bridgewater Canal towpath in Astley, formerly known as the 'Muddy Mile'. The improvements included complete resurfacing of the towpath, better signage and improved access points. This route is now part of the Bridgewater Way which encourages people to walk and cycle on the canal and tow path from Wigan Pier through Leigh and across the Salford boundary to Worsley, Monton and Patricroft.
