Cycle parking grants are open

Grants available for cycle parking provision

We're pleased to announce that applications have now reopened for grants to support the provision of cycle parking across Greater Manchester.

You have until Monday 31 January 2022 to submit your application.

A lack of safe and secure cycle parking is a significant barrier to people building cycling into their daily lives. The provision of cycle parking alongside infrastructure is therefore key to the success of new schemes. TfGM is committed to supporting organisations within Greater Manchester to deliver new cycle parking facilities which will support schemes across the region.

There are thirteen geographical areas within Greater Manchester which have been identified as having the greatest potential for increases in walking and cycling trips. These ‘major trip generators’ include the largest Greater Manchester district centres, the city centre, plus other major employment centres like Trafford Park, MediaCityUK and Manchester Airport.

The map shows the defined ‘major trip generator’ areas (navy blue) and the 2km (pink) and 5km (light blue) catchments to indicate those areas which will be considered eligible for grant funding. If unsure you can email your location postcode to and your location can be verified.

Who can apply

The cycle parking grant is available to four audiences: NHS, education, housing associations and small organisations (employing 20 staff or less) who are located within the catchment areas.

This grant is intended to be used by organisations wishing to install cycle parking that will be available for use by anyone travelling to that location by bicycle, including but not limited to staff, pupils, residents, patients and visitors.

If you are an employer that wishes to install cycle parking or other active travel facilities exclusively for the for use of your staff, you should instead apply for the business support grant which is available for this purpose.

Please email to request further information on this grant.

Grant amount

Grants are available up to a maximum of £10,000 depending on sector. Further information can be found in the relevant guidance document.

Application process

Applications for grants from the indicated audiences can be made by completing an application form. Please read the relevant guidance notes below first in order to fully understand eligibility and success criteria.

You can then request an application form by emailing with the name, audience type (NHS, education, housing association or small organisation), address and postcode of your organisation.

Your location will be checked for eligibility and if within the catchment area, the relevant application form will be sent out to you.

Please email the completed application form back by the deadline.
