Start a communitybike library

Starting a bike library in your local area

Applications for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) grants to set up a community bike library have now closed.

Bike libraries aims to boost access to cycling and take advantage of developing infrastructure, offering communities the chance to kick-start their own sustainable ‘bike library’.

These hubs will allow people to borrow a bicycle for free, like a book, to try out.

The aim is to encourage people to take advantage of the new infrastructure that has been developed or is planned for development across Greater Manchester.

Bike libraries will ordinarily be in the heart of a community, within easy reach by foot, in places such as community centres, schools, village halls or local business premises.

There are already similar schemes running across the ten GM districts, so this bike libraries scheme will support expansion and help create locally sustainable models where bikes are donated, fixed up and used.
